April Birchbox 2013

April 19, 2013
Here were the contents of my April Birchbox:

Mirenesse Glossy Kiss Lipstick- This was made to launch exclusively through Birchbox and can be used as a lip or cheek stain.  Mirenesse is an Australian brand, so I haven't heard much about it or tried any of their products before.  The lipstick seems like it is of high quality, but the color I got was reddish orange.  I would have liked a color that was more spring-like, and I'm not sure the color is going to look the best on me.  I definitely would have preferred a different color, but the product seems like it is high-quality.

Caudalie SOS Morning Eye Rescue-This product is made organically, and the grape water in it is supposed to help treat the area under the eye.  The product is teeny at only 1.5 mL or .05 fl oz.  I don't know if there will be enough in there for many uses, so I'll probably run out of product before I notice any differences.

Herban Essentials Towelettes- I got two of these--one is just a regular towelette infused with peppermint, and the other is a Yoga Towlette.  The Yoga Towelette can be used to wipe off your mat, hands, and feet after a yoga session.  I probably would have thought this product was cooler if I did yoga, but I can still use them.  I'll be bringing these to South Africa with me because they will be handy to use when I'm out for the day and need to feel refreshed.

Hail Merry Macaroons- Not to be confused with macarons, the French pastry, these treats are made with coconut oil.  I find a lot of vegan, gluten-free stuff kind of gross, but these were actually quite tasty!  This was the first time I ever had a chocolate macaroon, too.  There were two in the pack, and I found myself wanting more.

MALIN + GOETZ Cilantro Hair Conditioner- This shampoo is supposed to neutralize your hair's pH levels and be good for your scalp.  I am very excited for this product.  I have been looking for a new conditioner because I feel like the ones I've been trying lately aren't getting the job done and make my hair feel a little greasy.

Overall, I'm a bit underwhelmed with this month's Birchbox.  This was the first one I felt that way about, but I'm not completely disappointed.  Also, when compared to Ipsy, Birchbox generally gives out smaller sample sizes while Ipsy gives out more full sized products, plus you get a cute bag.  If I could afford to keep both, I would, but I'm really thinking about canceling this one to try Ipsy out and then seeing which one I like more.

Which subscription box has your vote?  Birchbox or Ipsy?
