Discount retail store haul

May 4, 2013
I hit up Wal-Mart and Target and ended up buying the following items:

TRESemme Keratin Smooth Shampoo
TRESemme Keratin Smooth Conditioner
Target Brand Powder Brush
Goody Ouchless 50 piece Hair Elastics
NYC Liquid Lipshine in Rivington Rose
Hard Candy Nail Polish in Pixie Pink
Flower Lip Service Lip Butter in Rose-y Future
Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow in Mum's the Word

I bought the TRESemme Keratin shampoo and conditioner in large bottles because I'm fresh out of conditioner and running low on shampoo.  I figured I would try them together, and purchased these because they are not costly at about $5.75 per bottle.  My hair gets really frizzy as the weather heats up and in humid weather, so I thought I'd see if these would help to smooth my hair like it promises.

I've wanted an Illamasqua Speckled polish ever since Glossybox.com had to post pictures of them on their Facebook page, but I just couldn't afford to spend more than $15 on one polish, so I decided to go with this Hard Candy Glitter Polish in Pixie Pink since it is only $4.00.  I'm really excited to try this out!

NYC's Liquid Lipshine in Rivington Rose was a little over $2.00, and I've worn it a couple of times since I got it.  For the price,  I am extremely happy with this product!  It smells like chocolate, goes on smooth, and is nice and glossy.

I needed a make up brush to apply loose powder/bronzer, so I opted for this one.  It's nothing fancy, and I'm on a budget, so I just bought the Target brand brush.

Goody Ouchless 50 piece Hair Elastics- I am one of those people that is constantly wearing a hair tie on my wrist.  I always have to have one on me or near me because my hair usually seems to be getting in the way.  Plus, I have to wear my hair up at work and when working with small children having my hair up is always wise.  (You would not believe how common lice is with the youngins.)  I like that these are painless elastics and there is no metal for my hair to get caught in.  So far so good with these!  We'll see how long 50 of them lasts me.  I'm constantly breaking and losing hair elastics.

Now for the Flower products from Drew Barrymore's new line... When I visited my local Wal-Mart and checked out the Flower stand, I was pretty disappointed!  All of the pretty eye shadow palettes that I saw online were sold out besides the blue one, and that is the only one I didn't want.  The loose powder that I was interested in had the safety stickers torn, so I didn't want to buy that.  Instead I went with a lip butter and the creme eye shadow.

Flower Lip Service Lip Butter in Rose-y Future

Here is how it looks, unused (even though it looks used)!

Although I haven't worn this color out yet, I'm a little disappointed in the product.  When I swatched the lip butter, it didn't feel like a lip butter.  The consistency was too thick and it was stickier than I thought it would be.  Also, I had to dig through the trash (don't worry, I just had a few papers to go through) to find the name of the color I bought because the lipstick tube itself isn't labeled!  Only the safety sticker has the name of the lip butter.

Flower Color Play Creme Eyeshadow in Mum's the Word

While the product itself went on nice and smooth and is in a nice color, I feel like there is hardly ANY product at all inside the container!  The above picture was taken before I even tried the shadow.  A lot of the product is stuck to the white piece that separates the product from the lid, which I will be sure to use.  For $8.00 I just feel like my money could have been better spent because I don't think I am going to get a lot of uses out of this before it's all gone.

Here are the swatches of the two lip products I bought, with the Flower Lip Service Lip Butter in Rose-y Future being on top, and the NYC Liquid Lipshine in Rivington Rose underneath.  Of the two, I really prefer the NYC Liquid Lipshine.  I just like the formula and texture of the product better, it smells good, and it's cheaper than the Flower Lip Butter.

These are just some of my first impressions of the products, but they are still new to me.  Have you tried any of these products?  What do you think about the Flower brand in general?  So far, I am not too impressed, but this may be due to the fact that the products I wanted to try the most were not available/had broken seals at my local Wal-Mart.

  1. You will have to let me know how that polish is because it looks soooo pretty! It reminds me of a revlon polish that I've been eyeing! I haven't tried any hard candy polishes before. And that's too bad about the cream shadow :/ maybe you could return it? Thanks for showing your haul :D :D I always love seeing what other people get and getting some shopping list ideas for the future!

  2. i love cream eye shadow in the summer but that stinks that it was so empty. and i've never tried that kind before either. also, too much keratin in your hair can actually damage it so if you wash your hair every day then you might want to switch it up with a different shampoo every other wash! :)

    1. I didn't know that about the keratin! It's no big deal for me to switch it up my shampoo & conditioner, so I'm just going to go ahead and do that...Not risking it. Plus, I've already had my share of damaged hair experiences from a straightening treatment gone wrong.

    1. Let me know if you do try anything! I wore the lipstick all day yesterday, and it left a weird line around my lips, so that it looked like I was wearing only lip liner and no lipstick. Drew Barrymore, what were you thinking!?!
