Botanical Beauty by Bondi New York

July 20, 2013
I recently purchased this lovely shade called Botanical Beauty from Bondi New York.  I couldn't pass up a buy one get one free coupon code, so it's like I really paid $6.25 for this bottle of polish instead of the $12.50 it retails for.  The shipping was super fast, and I got a live chat message asking me if I needed any help while I was shopping.  I didn't need any help, but it's good to know that representatives are available if you need them.  Another plus is that Bondi is a part of a non-profit company, with the money from the polishes going to different charities.

Here is how the polish looked on my nails:

I love the overall look and the color (duh, I did pick it out), but a lot of people were saying how isn't necessary to apply a top coat because of it's glossy finish and that it didn't chip at all for them after days of wear.  I wish that was also true for me!  I painted my nails on Wednesday night when I got off of work.  I let it dry, checked my e-mail, went to sleep, and when I woke up I already had a chipped nail!  I touched it up, but then throughout the day three more nails chipped.  I touched those up on Friday, but now it's Saturday and three out of four of them are chipped again, along with two more new chips.  I know at least one other person on Make Up Talk mentioned that this happened to her, but the majority of the feedback has been very positive.

For me, the polish always starts to wear away down at the nail's tips.  I've photographed it so you can see what I mean, but it has done this on every nail except for my thumbnails and pinkie nails.  I don't really think polish should do that after a half day's wear.

Sorry, Bondi, I wanted to like you, but the formula is not impressing me.  Like I said, others have had different experiences with Bondi where their polish didn't chip for days, and had that been the case for me I would have bought more polishes down the line.  I would probably rate this 2/5 stars because of the fast chipping.  I will try this polish again and apply a topcoat the next time, but that is an extra step for me because I only really apply top and base coats when I wear glitter polish.

Have you tried the Bondi polishes?  What did you think?

  1. Oh gurl, I've never tried this. Colour is impressive but it's bad that it didn't come out totally good!

    1. I know, I've had better luck with the brands Essie, Zoya, and Julep.

  2. Shame it didn't work for you Hun, it is a very pretty colour though. I always wear base & top coat as my nails are prone to chipping too.

  3. Hi Lisa thank you for taking the time to review the brand, I really appreciate it.

I'm disappointed that the polish started chipping so soon for you. There are a few recommendations that we make to customers who experience this including swiping the nail plate with polish remover to ensure no residual oils or polish and always using a base coat.

I know it's a pain as it's an extra step, however the base coat provides the extra strength for the color to adhere to the nail. We strongly recommend either our base coat or Sally Hansen. Other brands, because of their formulation can interact with our polish and sometimes chip. If you haven't already got a bottle of our "I'm Vers", shoot me an email (richard at bondinewyork.com) with your address and I'll get one sent out to you to see if this helps.

If you have any extra questions, let me know, always here to help.

    1. Wow, I was not expecting anyone at Bondi to ever read my review, but thanks for doing so. (I can't believe you even responded on a Sunday--impressive!) Thank you very much for the tips, and I will try it again using one of the base coats that you recommended to see if that helps.

    1. Yeah, they are very different, that's for sure. I used to own some neon green when I was younger, but I'm less wild now in my old age, haha.

    1. I haven't been able to try out the polish (or any other polish) again on my fingernails because I only have one day off from work at a time & I cannot wear polish to work. I don't think it's worth it to paint my nails just to have to take it off again the next day. :( I have been wearing the Botanical Beauty on my toes without the top and base coat and the polish has really held up well. I've had it on for almost 2 weeks and there are no chips at all. I don't understand why it chipped so easily on my fingernails, but lasts so long on my toenails without the top and base coats, but hey, I'll take it because I wasn't expecting that at all. When I do try it again with the I'm Vers top and base coats, I'll write another review!
