Simple Pleasures

July 9, 2013
When it comes to making my day, it doesn't take rocket science.  I wanted to take the time to post about the little things that make me happy!

1) Thoughtful notes-  My sister surprised me with this nice, hand written card congratulating me on my upcoming graduation.  I love getting unexpected snail mail!

2) A good meal with good company- I know the concept is simple...that if you eat well, you'll have more energy and so forth.  I just always feel SO much better when I eat healthier, freshly prepared meals, but don't always have the money to frequently go out to eat.  I also don't have the time to make meals like this every night if I'm working, so when I do eat delicious food that isn't processed I really appreciate it.  Also, there is something to be said for eating tasty food in good company.  The atmosphere around you can really affect your overall eating experience.

I enjoyed this vegetarian meal of couscous and pita bread with my sister, whom I hadn't seen in almost a full year!  We dined at The Jerusalem Garden Cafe in Asheville, North Carolina which we both recommend.

3) Taking a little bit of time to just relax-  Even though I'm working 35-40 hours a week, I have a lot more time now that I'm done with school, and it really makes a difference in the overall quality of my life.  Whether it's lighting a candle and meditating, applying a face mask and lounging about, or taking a soak in the bathtub, it is just so nice to have time to unwind!

I plan on trying out this dead sea mineral mask tonight as a way to relax after work.  I found this Que Bella mask at Target, and can't wait to give it a whirl.

4) Going to the library-  I love that I can be entertained with a book and that it doesn't cost me anything!  The titles below are what I checked out during my last visit.

 5) Little treats- If you like sweets, you have to indulge sometimes and I've been having a few squares a day of this Lindt Dark Chocolate bar.  Sea salt is added, which is perfect for sweet/salty combination lovers like myself.

6) Surprises- My friend knew that I really love Diamond Dust body wash from Victoria's Secret and that I couldn't find it anywhere.  She found this for me during their semi-annual clearance sale and picked it up for me.

I also like surprising others with the unexpected little goodies.  I saved some products up that I've collected and shared them with my sister because I knew that she would like them more than me!  I put them in a Glossybox and passed it along to her, and she said it was like she received a customized Glossybox.

What are the simple things you love the most?
