Beauty Box Five: 3 Months Worth

August 8, 2013
For my birthday, my friend got me the May, June, and July Beauty Box Five subscription!  Before receiving the box, I hadn't heard of this monthly subscription.  If you want more information on it, check it out here.
It costs $12 monthly, but as with most subscription boxes, the longer you subscribe, the bigger the discount you get is.  A one year subscription to Beauty Box Five is $99, which saves you $45.  I never usually do the yearly subscription, though.  That takes too much commitment on my part!  Plus, I like jumping around and trying new things, so my friend giving this to me for my birthday was the perfect present for me.  (Thanks, Dre!)

The May Box

I received:

La Fresh Deodorant Wipes
Coolway Transform Styling Spray
Jean Pierre Tanning Towlettes
Model Co Black Eyeliner
Ferro Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadow

My thoughts:

La Fresh Deodorant Wipes- I am verrrrrrrrrrry picky about my deodorant/antiperspirant because I cannot stand that wet, sticky feeling!  In general, I do love trying out new brands, but I think a deodorant/antiperspirant is an exception to this rule because I feel like so many deodorants/antiperspirants are ineffective!  I currently use Secret Shower Fresh Antiperspirant/Deodorant and that seems to work the best for me.  Even by the end of the day, it is still going strong.  I've really tried out a lot of other deodorants before this one, and they just do not work as well at all.  I've had Secret deodorant/antiperspirant shipped to me when I lived overseas in Korea and in Italy, so it is one of my must haves!  I guess I will try out these La Fresh Antiperspirant/Deodorant Wipes, but I am a little leery about it.  I just don't want to risk smelling or  having to have that unpleasant sweaty feeling, so I'll try them out when I know I'm going to be at home most of the day; NOT on a day that I work or anything like that.

Coolway Transform Styling Spray- This is a spray that will protect your hair from the damaging effects of using curling irons, blow dryers, flat irons, and so forth.  I already have some sprays like this, but this spray isn't only supposed to protect your hair, but it also promises to make your hair silky smooth if used with a blow dryer.  I like that using this spray will kill two birds with one stone,  and I hope that it actually does help my hair look more sleek.  At 100 mL, this is a generous sample size, but it is still small enough to take with you on flights.

Jean Pierre Tanning Towelettes- Hmmm...more wipes?  On the plus side, at least we are receiving two of each wipe.  I know that I am very pale, and I just have never had good luck with fake tan lotions/sprays/anything.  Sometimes it doesn't look natural, and other times it looks streaky or else I totally miss a spot and then there is a big white patch which does not look attractive!  Also, I don't like how sometimes your clothes get stained or ruined from tanning products.  I am not a big fan of the fake tan look, but it's summer and since these were free, I might try them.  I am glad they gave two of these because I don't think one will be enough to use on my whole body, but I am not quite sure, as I have never used tanning towelettes before.

Model Co. Black Eyeliner- Oh my... I have a lot of black eyeliner now from other beauty box subscriptions.  Now that I've cut down my subscriptions to just Ipsy Glambag, I am hoping to use up rather than just accumulate makeup.  I will eventually use this, but I have others that I am already using first, so I'm going to hold off on trying out this one.  I do REALLY like that it comes with a built in sharpener.  That is a major plus and makes it very convenient.  I am going to even save the lid so that I can use it in the future on other brands of eyeliner.  I'll just replace the lid with the Model Co. one!  I'm also loving that this product is full sized.

Ferro Cosmetics Mineral Eyeshadow- I had never heard of this brand before, but here is their website: Ferro Cosmetics.  I like mineral eye shadows, and I also am digging the shade I got, which is Vegas Tan.  It is a shimmery gold.  Unfortunately, the eye shadow did not come with a sifter, so even though I opened it very carefully, as you can see in the photo, some of the product fell out and made a little mess.

 The June Box

I received:

Coolway Cool Cleanse Shampoo
Coolway Cool Hydrate Conditioner
Just Being Sexy Body Bronzer
Shea Terra Organics Rose Hips Black Soap Facial
Minxxette Brush Hanger

My thoughts:

Coolway Cool Cleanse Shampoo and Conditioner- I have a lot of hair and go through tons of shampoo and conditioner, so when I receive different brands in beauty boxes, it's not like my black eyeliner dilemma where I'm scared I just am not going to be able to use it up.  I go through shampoos and conditioners quickly, and I know that I'll be using up both of these fairly soon!  I also think it's nice when we are given the shampoo and conditioner to try out together.  These can be used on all hair types, but the formula is supposed to help reduce frizz, so that's great for me.

Just Being Sexy Body Bronzer- As you can see, in May's box, I got self tanning wipes that I wasn't overly thrilled about, and this body bronzer is almost like a repeat item, even though it is not a wipe and it is, of course, a different brand.  On the packet it says that the body bronzer will not stain your clothes because it will wash out.  I really think I need to start a trade list for products like these so that I can get something more suitable for myself!!

Shea Terra Organics Rose Hips Black Soap Facial- This facial soap is the item I'm the most excited about!!  It is all natural, and the formula is adapted from an African one.  It is supposed to get rid of dead skin and deep clean your pores.  Since I wear make up practically every day, my pores could use a deep clean regularly.  It was hard to hold off using this soap until I got a chance to photograph it for this first impressions review!

Minxxette Brush Hanger- Interesting!  I haven't received many beauty related accessories in my subscription boxes, and I do not currently own a brush hanger.  I do wash my makeup brushes, but just lay them on a mini rack my boyfriend bought in our bathroom, but I guess it is better to actually hang brushes to dry instead of just laying them down.  It will help your brushes last longer because when brushes do not hang dry, the excess water can make the bristles become loose, which will eventually ruin your brushes.  I will attach this brush hanger to the rack in our bathroom and hang my brushes in them as I wash them.  It has a hook and suction cup, so it can be placed on a variety of surfaces.  The drawback to this is that the circumference of the hole that the brushes go into isn't that wide, so it would not fit a larger sized makeup brush.  Also, if you expect to use this product for each brush you wash, you would need to wash brushes one at a time, since it can only hold one brush.  I usually like to wash multiple brushes together.

 The July Box

I received:

Every Beauty Foot Smoother
Jean Pierre Cosmetics Nail Polish Remover Wipes
Be a Bombshell Lipgloss
La Fresh Travel Lite Antibacterial Wipes
H20 Plus Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment

My thoughts:

Every Beauty Foot Smoother- I have some foot scrub already and a pumice stone, but not a foot smoother like this.  The two best things about this smoother are that both sides have a different texture (coarse and fine) and also that it doesn't have to just be used on feet.  It works on elbows and knees, too.  It can be washed in the dishwasher, too!

Jean Pierre Cosmetics Nail Polish Remover Wipes- Beauty Box Five sure loves to include wipes, don't they??  I like the idea of nail polish remove wipes for traveling.  It saves you from having to lug along a big bottle (or even travel sized bottle) of nail polish remover and cotton balls.  These would have been nice to bring along on my trip to South Africa!

Be a Bombshell Lip Gloss- Yay for a full sized product!  This one retails for $14, so already that covers the cost of the box.  The color I received is called All Dolled Up.  I have a lip gloss obsession, so I'm happy with this!  The color is a nice, shimmery rose which will be great to wear to work.

La Fresh Travel Lite Antibacterial Wipes-  Again, MORE wipes!  That's merely an observation, and not necessarily a complaint because I like that this pack contains 8 wipes.  I know that these will be practical and that I'll use them.  Just yesterday I was at a picnic and before I touched my hamburger bun, I wanted to wash my hands, but the bathroom on site had no soap.  I just used hand sanitizer, but these wipes would have also been handy.

H20 Plus Face Oasis Hydrating Treatment- This is to be used after washing your face, and moisturizes your skin so that it reduces the appearance of fine lines.  On the product description card included inside the box, it says that you will see results within a day.  I will apply this at night after I wash my face, and see if I notice a difference, but I don't have TOO many lines yet (thankfully!!)

Overall: I'm so grateful to my friend for getting me this subscription because I got to try it out for three whole months.  By doing so, I really got an idea of what Beauty Box Five is like since I got to experience it over time instead of just once.  I will use a lot of the products in here, with the highlights for me being the full sized Be a Bombshell lip gloss and the organic rose hips black soap.  I think it has a nice mix of practical products, makeup, and skin care items, though like I said, I didn't particularly care for the self tanning stuff.  Also, it does seem like this subscription box included a lot of wipes, which I am okay with since I know that I am not subbed for next month.  I would not like to always get so many wipes if I continued the subscription.

Why would you or wouldn't you try out the Beauty Box Five box?
