Fashion Faux Pas

October 4, 2013

I was going through some of my old pictures and every once in awhile I would just have to groan and ask myself WHY I wore what I did.  I thought I'd share some of my worst outfit pictures with you because some are pretty funny, at least to me!

Okay, the green sweater is not bad in and of itself...I got it at a market in Korea for a good price, but that STUPID string looks awful.  It would have looked so much better if I just would have left it untied. Too bad I had to wear this shirt on my Great Ocean Road Trip so it makes an appearance multiple times in my photos!  It sort of reminds me of that scary story I was told in elementary school about the woman who always wore a ribbon around her neck and one day when someone pulled it off her head fell off.

When my travel companion and I went around India and Nepal together, he remarked that we were the only two Western non-hippies out of everyone that we had seen.  We both let our surroundings influence us and became a bit too hippie ourselves.  I'm not saying there's anything wrong with being a hippie, but it's just not me!  I feel so uncomfortable even looking at myself in this shirt and only ever wore it that one time.

Speaking of letting our surroundings influence us, this is apparently how living in Southern Italy influenced me.  I just have to say, "OH MY!" about this outfit.  The purse was a gift and it was very popular in the town I was living in.  The boots aren't bad in and of themselves, and I actually loved those tights, but the combination just isn't working...in the slightest bit!!

Here you can see I made zero attempt to cover up my purple bra straps.  At least now I try to cover them with a shrug, go with a strapless bra, or match the straps to the color tank top I wear.

So, I ordered the coat I'm wearing in the picture from a catalog and when I tried it on, it wouldn't zip up all the way.  Rather than pay the postage sending it back, I decided to keep the coat and not zip it all the way, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a coat.  Plus, it's kind of obvious as to why the coat won't zip, which is even more embarrassing.  I promise that I don't wear this coat anymore!

I'm saving the worst offense for last.  The scrunchie on the wrist...why oh why oh why???  Mind you this picture is from awhile ago, but it does not excuse the offense!

What are some of your cringe worthy fashion moments?

  1. LOL I laughed reading these. I know exactly how you feel. You wear an outfit and at the time you think it looks fine, even good but then years later you look back on it and think, WTF was I thinking lol. I have done that a lot, I think as times change your sense of style does as well so we don't keep liking the same things. I have so many photos that I want to hide but then I think, they were experiences and even if I looked terrible so what I had a blast lol. I think your outfits are okay, none of them are bad, and you look good in the photos.

    1. Thanks for thinking they are okay...hahaha, I don't approve. I have way worse ones from when I was younger, but they are all in photo albums at my mom's house. The worst for me are my middle school years. I looked so awkward and committed fashion no-no's on probably a daily basis.

  2. I actually quite like that orange shirt, haha! My problem is that I usually realize there was something stuck to my clothing after the photo was taken... you know, toilet tissue, a food stain etc. All the good stuff.

    1. Hahaha, at least one of us does & stains are no good! I do spill a lot of stuff, but thankfully I haven't yet seen the evidence in photos!

  3. Haha, I'm embarrassed by basically everything I wore before I was 18. We went to Thailand last year and I really wish I'd taken along nicer clothes. I was worried about things getting lost or ruined, but when I look at the photos I wish I hadn't take as many old clothes along :)

  5. Yeah, I do the same thing looking back at college pics. One cute shirt I have is kind of sheer when photographed and has a lace piece around the collar. So, of course, I have photos of myself wearing a bright blue bra under it. Classy.

    1. Oh no, it's never good to discover that your shirt is too sheer in photographs!
