Hair Color Options

October 9, 2013
**Warning, this post is totally vain and all about what hairstyles I'm considering trying out!**

After reading Rebecca's fabulous post about the virtual makeover site called Taaz over at Hello Pretty Bird, I have been spending some time manipulating my own look.  I have been wanting to change my hair for awhile, and Taaz.com is perfect because it allows me to see exactly how I will look as a blonde, brunette, and redhead.  There are so many different hairstyles to choose from, so I've also been experimenting with a variety of different length hairstyles as well.

Here's what I came up with!

*Look #1: Brunette (This is with Cindy Crawford's hair.)

I know that my hair will never look this good in real life, but I'm loving this shade of brown.  I think it complements my skin tone and my natural hair color is a light brown, so my roots wouldn't be too bad.  I could allow more time for regrowth between appointments and therefore save some money.  Plus, I love going darker in the colder months and lighter in the summer.  The drawback to this is that if I am going to pick to go this dark, I'm going to have to commit to this look for awhile since it will take forever to go back to blonde once a darker dye is used on my hair.

*Look #2: Blonde  (The January Jones look.)

My real hair is visible in this photo in the back--only the pretty curls up front belong to January Jones, so as you can see my hair is currently pretty close to this shade.  To get this look, I would need to go a little lighter and get all over color rather than just the highlights I have now.  I would also need to get rid of some length, which is freeing in a sense.  However, I haven't really gotten any length chopped off of my hair in years because of a hair horror story that forced me to cut my hair extremely short, so I'm kind of thinking I want to keep my long locks.  Overall, I reallllly love this shade of blonde, but getting blonde all over color would mean a lot more maintenance.  This look wouldn't be that drastic of a change, either, which is safe but not as exciting.

*Look #3 Redhead  (Erin Cummings's hair)

This shade is so pretty and I love the way red hair looks, but the problem is that every time I've gone red, the color only looks good for the first 3 weeks or so and then it fades into a color I don't like!  If I knew my hair would stay this color for awhile, this would be the look I'd go for, but I just don't trust that troublesome red dye.

Welp, I'm headed back over to Taaz to play around with some more looks.  I probably won't even be able to book an appointment for awhile, so I've got some time to weigh my options!

What was the last drastic change you made to your hair?

  1. I like look #1 on you! That color suits you nicely. :) I know what you mean about red hair dye... I've dyed my hair red a number of times (both "natural" reds and bright cartoonish colors) and reds of all types are absolutely 100% the worst for fading. Washing your hair less often and using color-depositing shampoo will help extend the life of your color a bit, but obviously not everybody can do that. It looks cool while it lasts though!

    1. At one point I was debating using Lush's semi-permanent Henna dyes because they're not nearly as damaging as regular dyes and a block of them is cheaper than going to the salon and getting it done. I just am scared that I might mess up my hair by missing a spot or something. I'm not too talented when it comes to dying my own hair...I've always been spoiled by friends who love dying hair and who have offered to do mine.

    1. Haha, thanks! I am leaning more towards the brown because I have been blonde for about 2 years now and want a change.

  3. I love option#1 too! I died my naturally ash blonde hair dark, dark brown and I loved it! But...my blonde roots showed through and it looked like grey hair about every two weeks. I did red too and I agree it only looks good for a couple of weeks. I need to try that site out - I want to make a change too!

    1. Oh that's awful that it looked gray! That site is sooooooooo addicting and makes me want to buy even more makeup than I already own since you can "try" out all sorts of different colors from different brands.
