Weekly Wishes

October 14, 2013
The last time I linked up for Melyssa's Weekly Wishes, I kept it pretty simple.

My wishes for the week were to:

*Pack for and enjoy my trip to PennsylvaniaMy trip to Pennsylvania to see my grandparents was well worth it.  I know it sounds morbid, but I'm being realistic when I say that I've got to enjoy the time I have left with my grandparents because no one is around forever.  The trip was really a success.  My grandpa told me that my grandma rarely laughs or smiles due to her health issues, but that my sister and I visiting her brought her back to her old self.  She was cracking jokes again just like she used to and was trying harder to communicate.

*Organize my jewelry.  I wish I had something nice to put my jewelry in like a pretty jewelry armoire, but I just have a jewelry case.  Nevertheless, it's all organized.

*Finish reading Roses.   I finished this book just in the nick of time because it was due at the library the day I finished it.

The theme for the Weekly Wishes picture this week is Celebrate. I decided to use the picture of lanterns because they were hung up in celebration of Buddha's Birthday.  The picture was taken a few years back when I visited a temple in Seoul.

My wishes for this week are to:

* Make use of my new sneakers and hit the bike trail.

* Try to meet up with a few friends.  I actually have no days off this week because I work or substitute every day.  I could use the money, so I'm not complaining about working a lot, but I'll go insane if my life is only about work.  I've always been the type to work hard and play hard, and I've gotta make some fun plans of my own to balance out the work part.

* Now that my jewelry is all nice and organized, I'm going to try to wear pieces that I've forgotten about over the years.  I found that I have a lot of nice necklaces and earrings that I haven't worn in such a long time.  What's the point of owning nice stuff if it's just going to collect dust?

* Look into physical therapy to strengthen my lower back.  I worked in a daycare about three and a half years ago, and lifting those toddlers all day long to change their diapers and just holding the kids in general destroyed my lower back.  I've experienced pain ever since.  When I quit the daycare, it felt a lot better, but lately it has been getting pretty bad again.  I went to visit a chiropractor, who took an x-ray of my back and basically told me that I'm deformed because I have no curve in my spine.  He looked at me and said, "Did you ever hear the expression, "Once you start going to the chiropractor you'll have to go for the rest of your life?"  That's not true for all people, but that's true for you."  I recently found out that chiropractic care is not covered by my insurance, but I think physical therapy is, so I'm going to try to go that route instead.  Plus, I want a second opinion.  I'm sure there is something wrong with my back, but my boyfriend insists that the chiropractor is making it out to be worse than it is and is using scare tactics on me so that I keep coming back for adjustments.

I hope you all have a fabulous week!

  1. that's good you got to spend time with your grandparents. and as for your back, i'd definitely get a second opinion. a lot of chiropractors seem to think that everyone needs chiropractic care, but you might be better off with a different kind of treatment. good luck!

    1. Yeah, I think I'm going to go to my family doctor who I trust more and see what he says.

  2. Ah, how lovely to see the pleasure you gave your grandparents in visiting them! I don't have any left, so I say definitely make the most of them whilst you can.
I think what the chiropractor said probably has a grain of truth, but i'm definitely with your boyfriend in that I bet exaggeration happens sometimes in order to get re-bookings.
Best of luck with your wishes! :)

    1. Thanks, Sarah! I wish they lived closer to me so that I could visit more often.
The reason why I also agree with my boyfriend is because one of the receptionists was very pushy with me to schedule three appointments. I kept telling her I had to call my insurance company first to see if they were covered but she kept trying and trying to schedule them with me.

    1. I hope so, too! It has been a nagging pain that is excruciating on some days but not that bad on others. I hope I can find something that works for me. I really want to try yoga, but I only found one place in my town that offers it and it looks a little weird, lol.

  4. Aw, you poor thing with your back! I totally understand <3 I had bad back problems a few years back and I swear by my chiropractor. If it wasn't for him, I'd definitely be a complete mess with so many issues. I've learned that there are chiropractors and there are chiropractors...some just adjust you, then charge you and that's that. They don't really care at all, they feel that adjusting is supposed to solve everything and as yours said: You do if for the rest of your life. It sounds like that may be the type you're having to deal with, and I'm so sorry to heart that! I hope you get some better medical treatment soon!

Btw, I tagged you in the Autumn Tag! I just posted about it on my blog, when you get a chance come check it out! http://charmingcheshire.blogspot.com/2013/10/the-autumn-tag.html

    1. I'm glad your chiropractor was able to help you. The guy I went to was very nice, but there were some red flags and plus with the amount he wanted me to go it would cost about $650/month! Um....I don't think so!
