Let's face it, it is hard to stay on track with spending in December. Like many, I know I went over my budget buying gifts for everyone. Looking at my credit card bill from last month made my heart drop, which is why I have to be careful with my money this month. Also, January is a slow month for movie theaters, so I won't be working the crazy hours I worked over the holidays and for Catching Fire. Plus, I have to keep in mind that while I do have subbing jobs lined up, there is a possibility that school will be canceled because of winter weather. The last time I subbed, my pay was cut because there was a two hour delay. If I do get to sub the full day, that's great, but I just know that I can't count on it.
The first rule of this link up states that I shouldn't be going on any extra, unplanned outings. I don't really have anything booked for this month, so that's good news. I do have to put aside $50 for dinner/lunch dates with my boyfriend. We never plan this kind of stuff out because of our crazy work schedules, but just do this when we feel like it. I know that I'm also going to have to spend maybe $20 for the days that I have to sub and then work. I get off from subbing at 4ish and then have to work at 5:30. If I went home and then went to work, that would be back tracking, so I usually just leave the elementary school I sub at, drive to the area where I work, pick up some food, and then go in a little early to work and sit in the office and have my dinner before I clock on.
As far as other expenses for the month, well, obviously I have certain bills to pay and can't avoid those...but I'm setting aside some money for a new blog design. I've already contacted Areeba @ I Have a Messy Bun about this and can't wait to start sending over my ideas to her! :) I figure that it's a new year so I want a new look for my blog. Other than that, I think I can stay on track, especially because I just got a lot gifts for Christmas, so there is nothing that I really need at the moment. I already spent some of my Christmas $$ on a Kate Spade purse, and that was a huge splurge for me, so I don't think I will have any trouble watching it for awhile. (Keyword=THINK)
Something that will really help me not spend is the fact that I got gift cards for Christmas, so I will still be able to make a Starbucks run and not spend any of my own cash. I also get in free to any movie I want since I work at a theater, so I will be using that perk to my advantage this month. Where I have to be careful is in Target because likely I will stop in there to pick up a necessity...I just have to get in and get what I need and then get out to avoid any temptations!
Well, I will be keeping track of what I spend and hope that I am able to follow through with what I've laid out here. Good luck to everyone participating in this spending freeze.
