Confessions on Re-Gifting and the Lost and Found

May 7, 2014
**I think it is pretty tacky to re-gift items you received that you do not want and pass them onto other people only act like you bought them yourself with that person in mind.  I save that kind of stuff for no-cost swaps that I do with my sister.  However, I admit that I will be re-using some of my birthday gift bags.  I mean, it's environmentally friendly, right?

**You know how on Facebook the "People You May Know" will frequently pop up?  Well, I wish it wouldn't because I feel like they are all "People That I Do Know & Dislike" so I haven't added them for a reason!

**Yesterday was my first day off in 15 days, and I couldn't have been happier.  I was actually looking forward to doing laundry!!

**I got a new shirt that is so adorable, comfy, and stylish...except that it makes me look fatter than I actually am.  I'm torn about whether or not I should return it.  It's so soft, yet I look like a cow in it.  Maybe I'm just having a fat day and it's not as bad as I think.  I'll give it a few days.

**My sister Melissa is coming to visit next week and I am anxiously awaiting her arrival.  I haven't seen her since Christmas break.  Also, Courtney is coming back for a week before she goes to Nicaragua, so I really hope to catch up with her, too!

**A customer told me that he thinks I look like Kaylee off of Firefly again.  I'm not so sure about that.

**There was this cute leopard print umbrella that was in the lost and found at work for over 3 months, so I asked if I could take it and my boss said yes.  Is that bad?  I mean, whoever left it there wasn't coming back for it, and we are supposed to get rid of our lost and found items biweekly.

**I realized that I may have been one of those people that Kathy was talking about who used a font size that was too small, so I sized up on the font for my posts.

**Since I'm starting my long term subbing next week for a first grade class, I won't be able to sub this one kindergarten class that I love.  My last day with them will be on Friday, which I'm kind of bummed about, but we'll see each other in passing.  I'll admit that I got attached to those little cuties.

    1. Haha, I'm such a bad liar, though. If a customer came up to claim it, I would have turned bright red.

  2. I don't think it is bad at all to take the umbrella, they didn't come back for three months, they aren't coming back.

    1. I mean, if I left something behind and completely forgot about it, I wouldn't mind if someone else snagged it. :)

  3. I agree that re-gifting is just ugh! Even if I hate a gift I wont re-gift it. Just something so wrong about that!

    1. Most of the time if I hate a gift, I wouldn't pass it along because my friends/family members are probably not going to like it either!

    1. Haha! I don't get how to change it on my comments section, though! How did it ever get so small?

  5. I totally feel the same way about Facebook and it's friends suggestion! There is never anyone I like that flashes up on the screen.

    1. It's usually people I can't stand or people who are friends with one of my ex's!

  6. I agree with the re-gifting thing and feel it's totally okay to reuse gift bags though!
And I couldn't agree more with the people you may know on FB!

    1. I mean, the bag looks brand new. If it was all crumpled up or torn, I wouldn't use that. :)

  7. HAHA I literally laughed out loud about the Facebook friends - yes, there is definitely a reason why I haven't friended them!

    Undeniably, me

    1. Yes--looking at that list makes me groan! It's a bunch of weirdos or people that I've actually defriended (for good reason!)

  9. I know what you mean about re-gifting things, but re-using gift bags I am all in. Those things get expensive!
Apparently whoever had the umbrella didn't miss it, if it has been there that long might as well take it - that's better than it getting thrown away.

    1. Yes, my boss even said that he was going to throw it away or take it to Goodwill, so I figured that it was time to take it.

  10. I wish I could reuse gift bags but I always shove them somewhere so they get wrinkled and unusable! I need to get organized.

    1. Oh yeah, I have a few that I couldn't use again, but a lot of mine are in good condition, so I figure, why not? I'm just worried that one day I will re-use a gift bag on the same person that gave it to me!

  11. We had that policy at a place I worked in college: if stuff was still in the lost & found after so long it was up for grabs.

    1. There is not a lot of stuff I would WANT out of our lost and found, but that something worth taking. The only other thing I wanted was this Coach wristlet, but that got claimed after a week.

    1. I've already used it a couple of times! My boss said I could also take this fleece jacket that I thought was cute, but omg it stinks soooo bad. I even washed it and it still smells like smoke--no thanks!

  13. Yes, the new size is great. And I totally regift things sometimes, even if it's hella tacky. Do you still love me?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Haha I totally agree with the regifting thing. I mean it's OK to pass something along to someone else if you don't like it, but wrapping it up and pretending like you picked it out? Cringey.

    1. Exactly! If I get something I don't like and have a friend who might, I'll just tell them what happened and see if they might want to have it. I would never wait til their birthday, wrap it up, and then act like I chose it specifically for them.

    1. I do like the shirt more now that I've worn it some more. :) I don't think I would be able to re-gift something--I would feel too bad, lol.
