#Sorrynotsorry

May 27, 2014
#Sorrynotsorry is a hashtag I've been seeing a lot of lately, which got me thinking, "What am I not sorry about?"  I've compiled a little list and thought I'd share!

I'm not sorry that:

* I'll go to bed super early (like at 9:30 pm) when I know I have to wake up early the next day.  I always try to get my 8 hours of sleep in, even though it's not possible sometimes.

* Sometimes after a hectic week I'd rather stay in than go out.

* I've spent A LOT of money on traveling.  If I saved my $ and didn't travel, I would probably not have had to take out any student loans, but I'm not one to make traveling excuses and try to go on as many trips as my budget will allow.

Am I sorry that I spent the money and went to Dali, China?  I think not!
* Many of my friends have or are talking about buying houses, but I just don't care about that right now. I would not want to deal with all of the upkeep and expenses at this point in my life!

* I want to move!  I've mentioned on here before that the teaching jobs in this area are few and far between.  The school district I live in recently cut 150 jobs AND closed three schools within the district.  Another local school posted a position for an elementary school teacher and there were more than 120 applicants!  The outlook is very dismal for me finding a job around here, so I'm leaving.  I went to school to be a teacher, not a substitute teacher.

* I defriended a bunch of Facebook "friends."  I'm not cold-hearted, but some of these people are just not my real life friends and we never communicate on Facebook!  Do I really need to be friends with my sister's ex-friend whom I met once at her wedding?  Nope.  What about a gal that I used to be friends with that was really condescending the last two times I ran into her?  Pass!  I just don't need that negativity in my life.

* I hardly ever blow dry my hair anymore.  It takes me almost an hour to get it fully dry, and I wash my hair every day.  That is time I'd rather have to sleep.

* I just spent $175 on clothes.  My wardrobe really needed re-vamping, and I used two coupons and saved about $100.

* My best friend and I just spent two hours talking on the phone like we often do.

* I'm already dreaming of my next vacation even though I have no idea when it will be.  I'm hoping that a trip out of the country will be possible this Christmas break, but nothing is definite.

What are you not sorry about at all?

Those long phone calls with your best friend are amazing. I am with you, I am not sorry I have spent my money on traveling and would rather plan my next trip than save for a down payment for a house.

i love this list!! and i defriended a ton of facebook people too...even people i used to be good friends with. no hard feelings but if i haven't talked to them in 10 years, i doubt facebook will change that.

also: travelling = YES!!!! travel as much as you can while you are mobile, that's my motto. once you're old and haggish and moving around is hard, you'll be so glad you travelled as much as you did.

I spent a bunch of money on travel in the past too but it was so worth it. Not sorry about that at all. Plus I stayed in hostels/other cheap accommodations whenever I did it so it's not like I was living large and recklessly or something. :P All of the things on this list seem really relatable. I'm not concerned with buying a house either, but I think that attitude is maybe a bit more common here in NYC where it costs insane amounts of money to own a home. My relatives who live in Maryland all seem to think that's a bit strange though!

I could not agree more about the house thing. People keep asking me why I wouldn't by instead of rent and I'm not ready to commit to this area yet OR be responsible for the upkeep...if I have the chance to pack up and go I want that option without having to worry about a house!

ahhh love all of these. yes to defriending people on FB, I don't have a lot of 'friends' on facebook for this reason. I don't want to keep up with people I don't like.
Travel is the only thing you buy that makes you richer ;) I love that quote, and I never regret a single dollar spent on travel. What I do regret, is spending money on stuff that I could have used on travel. stupid me!
that sucks about your district and the jobs, i hope you leave and move and find a good place! good luck :)

I did the same with Facebook- lots of defriending! And I want to travel SO MUCH MORE. Why does it have to be so expensive?!

Oh man, sometimes even after a LAZY week I'd STILL rather stay in than go out! haha

I wouldn't be terribly upset if I never got a house. Sure, one might be nice someday, but if I didn't get to travel...that would be the worst!

I know...what's the point of people being your Facebook friend if you don't talk in real life OR on Facebook!

I once dated a guy who told me that he loved to travel, but he wanted to wait until he was retired to travel more. He was in his late 20's when he told me that. Needless to say, I did not take him seriously!! I hope to squeeze in a few more trips soon!

I'm glad you agree with my list! :)

Sometimes I will splurge on nice hotels, but mostly I stay at guesthouses or pensions that are on the cheaper side. I don't mind being on a budget for traveling if that means I can save the extra money that I would have spent and put it towards another trip.

Glad that you enjoyed it! :)

Thanks, girl! I hadn't clean my friends list up in forever. I don't regret it at all--if anything, I'm happier because I don't see updates from people I don't really care about on my feed anymore.

I know!! I wouldn't want to mow the grass or have to try to fix...well, anything... I'm not exactly handy or good with tools.

Lisa @ Ameliorer la Vie said...

I feel the same way about the money I spent on stuff that could have been put towards a trip...especially if I don't get use out of it or it breaks.

I think the next place I go to is going to be cheap besides the airfare to get over there. I have been wanting to go to Central America forever and have yet to go!

Lisa @ Ameliorer la Vie said...

Yeah, me too! But, if I stay in TOO much, I get a little stir crazy!

Haha, I was just thinking to myself that you're like my little sis! :)
