My Summer Goals

June 26, 2014

* Apply for a South Carolina teaching license.
* Find a job.
* Lose 10 pounds.
* I own a lot of dresses and strappy sandals that I just didn't get a whole lot of wear out of in Ohio.  I want to change that since it will stay nice and hot here in Georgia all summer.
* Go to Charleston.
* Go to the beach at Hilton Head.
* Try boiled peanuts from a roadside stand.
* Go thrift shopping in Savannah.
* Finish reading The Book Thief.  (Yes, I started it MONTHS ago.  For some reason I just put it down for a loooong time and haven't finished it.  I started reading it by the pool, but it just seemed too dark to read on a nice, sunny day.  I guess I'd rather read In Touch or blogs by the pool!)
* Read The Fault in Our Stars, Gone Girl, and Game of Thrones.
* Go out to eat at Sweet Potatoes.  I read that this restaurant serves typical Southern comfort food and it was featured on Man vs. Food for having the best banana pudding!
* Buy new bedroom furniture.  When I moved, I left all my old stuff behind because I wanted to start fresh and pick up a whole new bedroom set from Ikea.  I could do that now, but I just feel too guilty spending that kind of cash without a job lined up, so right now I'm living out of a suitcase.
* Go out for drinks one night in downtown Savannah.  I haven't had a night out on the town in ages.  Ideally, I'd go out one night to celebrate finding a job. :)
* Check out this old movie theater that was recently renovated.  I guess it only has one screen and it's supposed to be really nice inside.

What's your plan for the summer?

    1. I don't count last year as me searching because I only applied to one school because that's all I could really find!!! My friend swears up and down that I'll get one and has promised to call his principal about me. Good luck with your search, too.

  3. Good luck with all of your goals! If I hadn't spent probably close to $1000 over the past 2-3 years getting myself licensed in Texas I would love to move elsewhere to teach. I love Texas but I also really love the deep South. I suppose I'll just have to stick to vacations ha.

    You HAVE to let me know what you think of boiled peanuts when you try them! I tried them for the first time 2 years ago. My cousin hated them but I was sort of indifferent with them ha.

    1. Yes, it's SO EXPENSIVE to get licensed. South Carolina's was cheaper than Ohio's, but I still had to pay a $105 fee, $51.50 for a background check, $40 for my Praxis scores to be sent, $9 for my transcripts, and then take a 2 hour trip into Charleston so that I could get fingerprinted!
      I did get to try the boiled peanuts!! I didn't like them at first, but they're growing on me or maybe I'm just hungry and don't have a lot of "snack" foods lying around the house so they seem better than they are.

  6. I read Gone Girl and loved it! I read most of the Fault in Our Stars I got to the end and I tossed it aside, I couldn't handle the sadness...then my sister dragged me to see the movie and I bawled the entire time! I have the Game of Throne series on my night table and I have been putting it off for months...It seems like a big commitment, there are so many books! Did he not know how to end the story? I may give it a shot anyway. Right now I am reading the Divergent series (saw the first movie) and then I am going to begin the Ugly series. Have you read Pillars of the earth? It is so good.We should exchange book lists :)

    1. George R.R. Martin still hasn't finished writing the Game of Thrones series--crazy, right? It seems like a lot of fantasy series go on forever. I've been on and off reading a fantasy series that's around 25 books right now I think. It's fun to continue to go on adventures with characters, but in GRRM's case, I guarantee those characters won't last long...ha

    2. Aren't there at least two more books (possibly more depending on the author) intended for the series? If I like Game of Thrones, I'm going to space out the books so that I'm not waiting for years for the books to come out in order to see how the series ends!

    1. If I get a teaching job I won't feel guilty about having the time off, but it's the not knowing if/when I'll get a job that's making me crazy!! I'm a worrier when it comes to money!

    1. It is!! It's nice to get to wear them without tights, too. When I wore dresses teaching, I always had to wear black tights to cover up my tattoo!
