Friday Favorites

July 4, 2014
I'm here today to share with you what I've been obsessing over since the last time I posted about my favorites. :)

* Snoozies Slippers- I've owned slippers before but never really wore them until I bought my pair of Snoozies.  They are ballet slippers made with Sherpa fleece and they don't look half bad, either.  The pair I chose have black sequins all over them and bows on the top.  My new apartment is not carpeted, so I have been wearing these every single day.  They are cute and extremely comfortable, not to mention that they do what they are supposed to do which is to keep my feet warm.  I want another pair already!

I bought a this pair at a store in Amish Country, but I found a link to a place that sells them online called Catalog Favorites if you're interested!

* Pantene Moisture Mist Detangler- This leave-in detangling spray works wonders on my tangled hair. Before I found this spray, I had been using Philip B's Detangling Toning Mist with Apple Cider Vinegar. I was happy with the performance of the Philip B product, but goodness...it stunk!  It's made with vinegar which is supposed to be a natural detangler, but I associate the smell of vinegar with cleaning up pee and don't necessarily want my hair to smell like that.  I can assure y'all that Pantene Detangler has a pleasant, fresh smell.  Using this detangler helps to prevent breakage and allows my brush to just slide through my hair without all the tugging and battles with knots.  I picked my 8.5 oz. bottle up at Target for just $5.99, and WILL be repurchasing once I run out!

* Floral I-Phone Cases- Since I moved up in the world and FINALLY got an I-Phone, I went hunting on Amazon for a cute case and was not disappointed with my search.  I knew that I would probably go the floral route, but once I found this case, I was sold!  Yay for my 1st ever I-Phone case!

* Hummingbird Cake- I had never heard of this kind of cake before, but my Southern friend made it for my other roommate and I.  I wondered if Hummingbird Cake was a "Southern thing," and my Google search told me yes.  This kind of cake was one of the most delicious kinds I have ever tried, and I'm even going to request this for my next birthday!  It's made with crushed pineapple, chopped bananas, and is covered with cream cheese frosting and pecans.  The recipe that my friend used can be found here, although this exact recipe was originally featured in Southern Living magazine.  Apparently it is Southern Living's most requested recipe if that tells you anything.

* Having a beach close by- Driving 45 minutes to an hour and being able to go to Hilton Head is like a dream for me considering the ocean was a long way from Ohio.  I love that I can hop in my car and spend a day lounging at the beach or enjoying the other attractions that Hilton Head has to offer whenever I please!  I've already gone out to Hilton Head twice this week and think it will turn into a regular thing this summer.

* Grilled Kabobs- My bestie's sister-in-law invited us over to her house and set out bowls of tomatoes, squash, green peppers, onions, mushrooms, chicken, and beef tips.  We were provided with the skewers and then got to assemble them according to our tastes.  It was a fun activity and we could make exactly what we wanted before they got grilled up.  These were healthy and tasty, and I'd like to re-create this idea if I ever have to throw another shower (which I'm sure I will.)

Linking up with Amanda today!

Have a safe holiday weekend and Happy 4th of July!

  1. Those slippers are cute! I need a new pair since my Hello Kitty ones have seen better days lol. So you are not in Ohio anymore? It's nice to live close to the water, I live close to Lake Ontario which is HUGE, looks more like the ocean than a lake, we also have a lake on our cabin up north nestled in the trees on 100 acres, its gorgeous! I always see a lot of wildlife while I'm lounging on the deck, I'm a city girl but sometimes its nice to just get away from it all. I also pop over to Niagara Falls a lot, its one of my favorite places in the summer. Niagara on the lake is a quaint little town with boutiques and lots of picnic areas overlooking the river below the gorge, its pretty! It only takes us about an hr to drive down (traffic permitting). Sometimes I cross the border into Buffalo New York and go shopping but Niagara Falls on the U.S side isn't as great, there isn't much to do there, the Canadian side has tons of things to see and do. I am thinking of taking a trip to Algonquin Park this year, its suppose to be beautiful.

    1. Oh wow, you have a cabin that you can go to get away from city life?? That sounds perfect, and I know what you mean about needing to escape once in awhile. When I lived in Seoul, I would have to go on a weekend getaway every so often just to get away from the pollution and mobs of people. I came back feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to enjoy Seoul again.
Also, no, I'm not in Ohio anymore! I moved down South to a town just outside Savannah and am loving it here so far!

  2. Love the idea of the skewer party! Living near the ocean is so nice, I love being able to walk down by the water whenever I want.

    1. Yes! It's even better than you're within walking distance. When I nannied in Italy, I could see the Adriatic Sea from the window of the family's house. I'd often walk along the beach, even in the winter. Now I'm just glad to have TWO great beach options within an hour's drive: Tybee Beach and Hilton Head.

  9. Those slippers are so glamorous! :) I also have ballet slipper style ones, but they're grey jersey with sheer bows on top. I've always loved slippers, but these feel a bit less sloppy and I love them. I've heard of hummingbird cake before and I even have a recipe, but I've never gotten around to actually trying it.

  10. Hahaha... I tried to use an apple cider vinegar toner on my FACE before - BIG MISTAKE! I smelled like a foot! Pantene is probably a much better choice, haha!

    1. Oh yeah, the Pantene IS a better choice, smell-wise. I think I'd have to pass on that toner, haha!!
