Wednesday Confessions

July 30, 2014
I confess that I wasn't going to do a confessions post this week but then figured, "Why not?" I thought I wouldn't have enough to talk about, but once I started listing everything out I realized I had more than enough. :)

* One of the my New Year's goals was to update my About Me section on my blog because as it is now, mine is the lamest of the lame...I confess that I just NOW wrote out some ideas and will post the new one by the end of the week.  I don't know why I dread the "About Me" section so much...I mean, on here I write about myself all the time, but for some reason every time I try to describe myself on the About Me section, I get all awkward, re-write everything, and just really struggle with coming up with what to say!

* People keep giving me "advice," that I don't actually find at all helpful.  Today someone told me that I ought to open up a travel agency.  I told her that most people now book their trips online, never mind that I don't have the funds to just start up my own business.  She proceeded to tell me how the older generation would like to go in and talk to someone in person about trips and traveling even if that meant there was an extra fee, which kind of annoyed me because I already told her that I wasn't really interested in doing that.  Did she expect me to say, "What a great idea!  You're right...let me start that."??

* I hadn't seen any movies at all this summer until Sunday...and then I watched a movie on Monday...and then I watched a movie yesterday, too.  Isn't it funny how that works?  A movie that I reallllly want to see is Wish I Was Here, but unfortunately that isn't playing anywhere around me.

* When I was talking to Rachael on Sunday about her job at Bath and Body Works, she told me that everyone was so nice and she liked all of her co-workers.  It put into perspective how ratchet some my former co-workers at the movies really were!!  One is being investigated for kidnapping, one is a convicted felon, and then there were just a bunch of lazy stoners.  There were also a lot of people in their mid-20's who lived with their parents and only worked two days a week because their parents made them.  They would never be willing to take extra shifts and would whine during their time at work saying they wanted to be out with their friends.  #getaclue Now, don't get me wrong, there were some really cool people there, but goodness...there were some real pieces of work there, too!

* Here's some VERY exciting news... :)  I've known my sister was pregnant for several weeks now, but I didn't want to write about it on here until she was comfortable with me doing so, which of course I respect 1,000 %.  She told me to wait until she found out the sex of the baby.  Well, she called me a few days ago and told me that she would be having a girl!  I'm so thrilled for her.  This is something that she has wanted for a long time.  I'm happy for myself, too because I'm going to be an aunt!!

* Now that I have a job prospect, which I'll probably explain in a later post, I'm thinking I'd like to take a little trip for a few weeks before I would start.  The only thing is that almost all of my friends have babies and I know that they wouldn't be interested/able to go.  I have been on several solo trips before, but think I'd prefer a travel buddy this time around.  I just don't know how to find one, and am a little leery of writing about my trip on a travel forum asking for company.  I guess I'll look into some trips and weigh my options.  If nothing works out, I'll just save the cash and travel over Christmas break. I just know that I have to go somewhere soon...I'm itching to explore and my last big trip was just over a year ago.

* Also, while I absolutely love Savannah and Everett and Jared's company, I'm wondering how on earth to make some girl friends.  I found a site called MeetUp.com that has all these different groups in the Savannah area.  There are some groups for dating (which I don't want!!), but then there are groups just based on interest.  I found one that is for single women in their 30's and I'm thinking about going to an event.  I'm a bit nervous about it because I've never done anything quite like this before, but I figured that it would be worth a shot to try.  Maybe I'll meet someone really awesome, and if it sucks I don't have to go again and I have some blogging material. ;)

Have you or would you ever use Meetup.com if you moved to a new city and were trying to make some friends?

    1. Well, probably not the ones with the babies, but maybe some of my other mommy friends would go. After some careful consideration, I'm just going to save my $$ for a trip over Christmas break instead.

  2. I only have a couple of friends that I really think to invite places and then acquaintances. I might look up that website just to see if they have anything in the TPA area. Congrats to your sister, a little girl is so exciting! My about me is pretty simple, now when it comes to designing for myself I don't ever feel like I got it just right!

    1. I'm too paranoid to write about the ratchet-ness in detail, but some of the stuff certain employees did made national headlines because it was so messed up. #nolie

  6. Yes MeetUp is awesome! It's actually how I found one of the Seattle blogger groups I go to about once a month. I also found my book club through there! Definitely lots of good options on there and hope you find a good group! :)

  7. I've used MeetUp! I used to go to a "dog owner" meetup group in DC, and now that I've moved I joined an art group. So far, I've definitely enjoyed attending and socializing but haven't had tons of luck in actually making friends to hang out with outside of the meetups. I think the more populated areas have better luck just because there's more people to actually attend.

    Congratulations to your sister!

    1. That's good that you liked all the events you went to through the groups. Hopefully there are some other people like myself at the group--new to the area and looking to make a friend or two.

  9. ooh where are you thinking of traveling to?
Also, I've signed up for meetup.com, but I am so spazzy and weird that I freak out and know that there is no way in hell I'd go to one of the meet ups because I'm weird like that.

    1. I wanted to squeeze a little trip in before starting work again, but it doesn't look like it will happen. :/ Oh, if I go on a meet up, I'll for sure be really nervous. If it gets to be too terrible, I can always leave...lol, but hopefully it's fun!!

  10. Meetup is great! Obviously some groups are going to be better than others, but it's definitely a good way to meet new people. And LOL at the travel agency suggestion ... I actually used to work as a travel agent, and it's the worst job I've ever had. Incredibly stressful and hard to make a lot of money unless you've been doing it for a while. But thanks for the suggestion, pal. :P

  14. I've taken my dogs to meet ups from Meet Up. I think it's legitimate and in a public place. If it doesn't work out, what's the worst that could happen? You never see them again.

    Job prospect, do tell!

    Congrats auntie!
