My Life in Quotes

August 2, 2014
Last month I wrote about My Life in Numbers, and that post gave me the idea for this one--my life in quotes!  I looked through my quotes board on Pinterest and selected the quotes I thought best defined me or related to my life.

I picked this quote because I have several friends that I consider my to be my "soulmates."  Mostly, when I see this quote I think of my friend Everett.  We will never be IN love, but I still love him as a friend and think he is one of the best people out there.  He inspires me, encourages me, makes me laugh hysterically, and is the best listener.  He is such a genuine person, and a true friend--one who has my best interests at heart.  I can only hope that I return the favor and that he feels the same about me. :)

Not only do I find it to be true, but also as a child I was intrigued by Dr. Seuss books.  I found some of the messages in his books to be quite powerful.  After watching the Lorax in 2nd grade (there was a cartoon version before the latest release), I planted seeds and became more environmentally conscious.  I tried to always turn of the lights and to not let the water run when I brushed my teeth.  However, the main reason why I picked this quote is to encourage the kids that I teach to read.  I'd like to have this quote displayed in my future classroom because kids not only learn from reading, but they also become better readers every time they read!

After I graduated last summer, I dreamed moving far away.  Everett tried to convince me to move to Savannah, and I sort of laughed at him. However, once I visited Savannah, I ended up loving it.  The fact that Everett is from there and wanted to share a place was just icing on the cake.  For some reason, it was a hard change to make, but I eventually did it and love Savannah as much as I thought I would. This quote keeps things simple...Just go out and do what you've dreamed of doing!

There are a lot of travel quotes out there, but this one is one of my favorites because it rings true. I've been so blessed in the sense that I've seen some amazing sights and my friends have told me that they enjoy hearing my travel stories.

After hanging out with my roommate's dog, Claude, I realized I'm such a dog person!  Is it weird that I miss Claude since I've been away from him for a week?  I already told my roommates that I'm Claude's new mom and dog-napping him whenever I move out.  He just makes our place feel like home if that makes any sense.

I picked this quote for surviving my Masters program.  The coursework itself wasn't that hard, but all of the papers, projects, deadlines, portfolios, themed units, and field hours were a lot to handle. Also, it got the the point where I thought I would never be done!!  We were told the program would only be a year and one quarter, but it ended up being two full years.  They kept adding on pointless classes and blamed the switch to semesters as the reason.  I just thought I'd never get out of there, but am SO glad that I am done.  I survived!

It's pretty obvious why I chose this collection of quotes.  As a Northerner who recently moved down South, I'm starting to discover what living in the South is all about.

This quote describes me.  I can be very self-critical and tend to re-play certain situations in my mind and beat myself up over stupid stuff.  Even if I got an A on a test, I would get mad at myself for missing a couple of questions.  This quote serves as a reminder that no one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes, and to just lighten up!

Trust me, I do this!  If I'm in the mood for something sweet, unfortunately the craving does not go away after I eat a meal.  I just skip straight into having a dessert first so that way I don't eat a whole meal AND a dessert when I just wanted to dessert the whole time.

I would definitely describe myself as an introvert, but I have heard from a bunch of my friends that they didn't think I was cool at first but then thought I was great "once they got to know me."  I am not the kind of person that is overly friendly or who knows how to make interesting small-talk with strangers.  I tend to shine in small groups of people I know well or just with one other person.

    1. My sister read this as soon as I posted it and said, "I don't see you as an introvert at all." I can be social, but I love to have A LOT of alone time to read, blog, binge watch Netflix, etc.

  7. I love the soul mates quote. I truly identify my est friends as soul mates too. I think we have several soul mates over the course of out lifetimes. Dogs are the best and all I really need is a good book to take me away. I think I may need to do a similar post. Thank you for the inspiration!
