What's in Your Bag? Linkup

August 5, 2014
Today I'm joining Heather, Becca, and Rachael in hosting the "What's in your Bag?" linkup.  Feel free to pick any bag you own, tell us about the contents inside, and link up with us below.  There are no rules, but you're more than welcome to grab the button for our linkup and put it in your post.

Bag Lady Linkup

Since I've already blogged about what I carry around in my purse and did a post about what's in my bag for subbing, today I thought I'd share what's in my makeup bag.

Confessions: I actually have two makeup bags jammed full of products, but I'm just going to show you what's in one of the bags.

A lot of what's currently in my makeup bag are products that I got in subscription boxes earlier this year.  I realized I was accumulating way too much stuff, and I'm trying to use what I have instead of splurging on more beauty items.

I wouldn't have necessarily picked the makeup bag I'm using for myself.  It was an Estee Lauder free gift from awhile back.  It serves the purpose, though!

1. Chanel Eye Shadow Palette: Les 4 Ombres No. 51 Stage Lights- I originally got this eye shadow quad as a gift from a student when I taught in Korea and it quickly became a favorite, so much so that I used the whole thing up!  I re-purchased the same palette about two years ago, but I had to search for it online since Chanel doesn't make this exact one anymore.  I've been using it sparingly because now it's going to be even more difficult to find, but now that I think about it, I should probably just go ahead and use it more since eye shadows go bad after three years, according to this article.  I guess I don't have to have this EXACT one again, but the combination of colors in the palette are quite beautiful, IMO.  Click here to see the current collection of Les 4 Ombres.

2. Too Faced Shadow Insurance Anti-Crease Eye Shadow Primer- Love this stuff!  It really eliminates the creases and makes some of my shadows appear a little darker and more dramatic.  It is particularly useful with cream eye shadows because without primer, I get creases pretty quickly.

3. Maybelline Color Whisper in Faint for Fuschia-  This lipstick is feels light and is supposed to be made without heavy wax.  I mostly bought it for the fun, bright color.

4. Maybelline Baby Lips in Cherry Me- The subtle color is just what I need in a lip balm, and these are so inexpensive.  I can see why Maybelline expanded their line of these!

5. Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie- This lip butter adds color and keeps my lips moisturized.  I wouldn't hesitate to buy more lip butters from Revlon in the future.

6. Maybelline Eye Studio in Taupe Temptress- The shadow goes on smoothly and I am a fan of the colors.

7. Physician's Formula Eye Definer- This eyeliner is waterproof and stays on all day.  The product can be dispensed by simply twisting it, but it also comes with a built in sharpener which I'll sometimes use to create a very thin tip.

8. Be A Bombshell Lip Gloss in All Dolled Up- I'm sure I got this in a subscription box.  Nothing about it really stands out to me, but it works just fine as a lip gloss.

9. Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara by Tarte- I don't wear mascara that often, but when I do, I wear this one.  The wand is double sided--one side is for application, and the other is for "combing" through lashes to make sure they don't stick together.  The mascara really does make my lashes appear longer and thicker.

10. Cailyn Gel Eye liner in Iron- I got this in an Ipsy Glam bag and yawned at the product at first glance, but I find myself using it all the time because it WORKS and doesn't smudge.  There is a built-in brush, which is also a plus.  What I initially thought was a dud actually became one of the best things I ever got in an Ipsy Glam Bag.  I alternate between using this and my Physician's Formula eye liner.

11. Mac Carbon Matte Eyeshadow- I apply this with a very thin makeup brush and, on occasion, use this eyeshadow instead of liner.

12. L'Oreal True Match Super Blendable Makeup in Porcelain-  This shade of foundation is actually a little too light for me.  I didn't want to just pitch it and found that it still looks good if I brush on some bronzer.

13. Pixi Beauty Bronzer in Subtly Sun touched- Again, I got this in an Ipsy Glam bag.  I never owned a bronzer before this and thought I wouldn't like it.  As you can see, I used up almost all of it and will be buying more bronzer to replace this once it's all gone.

14. Sephora Smoothing and Brightening Concealer- This is for masking under eye circles.  I don't know if I would re-purchase it because to get the concealer to come out of the tip of the brush, you have to twist it.  No concealer will come out and then with just a slow twist, way too much will spill out.  Does anyone have a better recommendation for under eye circles?

15. Tigi Glow Blush in Brilliance- I use this blush almost every single day and sometimes use it as an eye shadow, too.

16. Coola Organic Classic Sunscreen- Currently, I'm using this as a moisturizer.  I like that it has an SPF of 30 to protect my face.

17. Dior Skin Compact Makeup- A student gave me this years back, but I didn't start using it until this year.  It's good for making my face appear less shiny, but I wouldn't recommend it if you're expecting heavier coverage.  Although I like the product, I wouldn't re-buy it because it's about $50 and I think I could find something similar for less money.

18. L'Oreal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Fair- I've mentioned this BB Cream at least twice on my blog already.  It's my third tube of it!

Last but not least, I'm currently using my limited edition Aqualillies for Tarte palette.  It's not for sale anymore, though you might be able to find it on Ebay.  If you'd like to see the inside, click here.  It contains a blush, eye shadows, and highlighter.  It's handy to have with me because it's what I use as a mirror when I apply my makeup and I like the design of the compact.

  4. You had me sold at the mascara! I'm totally going to have to check that out when I run out. I hate the clumping. Right now I'm really liking the CK one I got for free from Ulta for my Birthday!!

    1. Gotta love free mascara!! Let me know if you like Lights, Camera, Flashes...Just put on 1 or maybe 2 coats for the best effect because any more than that gave me spider leg lashes.

  7. Seems like a fun idea! The first eyeshadow compact looks very similar to ones I've ordered from Avon. Maybe if you can't find the chanel brand anymore, I bet avon will have something similar!!

    1. I really like it!! It's lightweight and hides small imperfections. The only bad thing is that it doesn't have SPF, but my moisturizer and powders do.

  12. How fun! I couldn't do a "What's In My Makeup Bag" cause all my makeup is in a Ikea Alex 9-drawer system that would be one long blog post! LOL
