What Makes Me Feel Better

October 8, 2014

*Slipping into comfy clothes.  Gosh do I love wearing yoga pants, sweatpants, hoodies, and Snoozies around the house.

* Helping someone out or having someone help me.  One veteran teacher at my school has really gone out of her way to help answer my questions, and believe me, I have a lot of them.

* Pay days!!  I find this VERRRY strange, but I got paid for two weeks of work on Friday and the money was in my account before I even finished working on Friday, which was one of the days I got paid for.  At every other place I worked at there was always a delay in the payroll period, but I guess not at my current school district.  Hey, I'm not complaining and was super happy on Friday when I got my first paycheck since June. :)

* Gorgeous weather.  Yesterday it was just perfect out...It was in the upper seventies, sunny, and there wasn't a single cloud in the sky.  Just getting to go out and breathe in fresh air in nice weather can be glorious.

* Buying myself flowers.

* Getting support from my friends and family.  My sister Denise is just the best...We spent two hours talking last night about some difficulties we were facing and she told me, "Just so you know, I'll always be here for you to listen and support you."  Just hearing those words meant so much.

* Everett's jokes and humor.  It's nice not to take everything so seriously and just having a good laugh every now and again can do wonders.

* Seasonal treats.  Of course now I'm on a pumpkin kick like I am every fall.  I really love Dunkin Donut's pumpkin mocha iced lattes.

* Getting extra days off.  This won't happen for awhile, but I'd love to just have a catch up day so that I can relax for two full days and then get stuff done on my extra day off. :)  Right now, I take Saturday for myself and spend Sunday getting ready for my next teaching week.

* Escaping reality with a good book or with a movie.  You guys, I want to see Gone Girl soooo badly...hopefully I can next weekend.

* Retail therapy.  There's nothing like a successful shopping spree!

* Getting pampered.  I'm talking about a massage, getting a facial, or a mani/pedi.

* Words of affirmation.  I think that is my "love language," but I'm also big on it in all areas of my life.  One of my teaching mentors e-mailed me telling me I was doing a good job, and her feedback really made me feel better.

* Accomplishing a goal or crossing something off of my to-do list.

* Traveling and planning a trip.  I've been e-mailing a few friends to see if they would like to take a trip with me this summer.

* Blogging and reading other people's blogs.  I like 98% of other bloggers (there are always a few ratchets, haha), and am happy to be a part of this great community!

* Comfort food.  Of course now that I'm in the South, traditional Southern meals are easier to come by, but a good old bowl of chicken noodle soup or a grilled cheese sandwich sometimes just hits the spot.

* Organizing my desk after teaching.  By the end of the day, my desk can get pretty messy.  Putting everything back in the right spot helps me feel more prepared for the next day.

* Getting any sort of deal or freebie.

* Feeling prepared at work.

* Getting the right amount of sleep and getting on a schedule.

What always makes you feel better?

  3. Yes to so many of these! When I feel prepared for my day (lunch made, outfit layed out, blog post for day ready) it makes me feel so much better! Sisters are just the best! Every time I get to talk with my sisters I always feel so much better.

  4. Thank you for teaching me about Snoozies, I think I need a pair now! I love flowers but I rarely get them for myself - maybe that should become more of a regular thing. :)

  5. Jogging pants are the best pants. Words are totally my love language, getting a little note or email or happy blog comment is an instant improvement on my day. I love getting an good nights sleep and feeling well rested, and of course I am always up for some retail therapy!

  6. Definitely love getting a good night of sleep, organizing my desk (or anything... really) and fresh flowers! Also, when I check off my to do list at the end of the day, that makes me feel good. I love this list! :)

  7. My mood is always affected by the weather! When I lived in New England, it was very cloudy almost everyday during the winter and I could tell it was affecting my mood. When you don't see sunlight for weeks straight, it really takes a toll on yourself. Weird how that works!

  8. I'm big on words of affirmation, too. I even took the love languages test and it confirmed it for me. Which was surprising, because I do loooove being taken care of. And gifts. :)

  11. I'm trying so hard to get on a schedule right now! Not doing so great this week, but on the occasional day I manage to get through my nighttime routine and in bed on time, I always feel great the next morning, so I know it's going to be worth it! I get to enjoy 2 of the things on your list this weekend: 3 day weekend (Columbus Day) and a shopping spree. Can't wait for the end of the week!

  16. No problem...I absolutely love mine and want another pair. They are so much cuter than the "old lady" looking slippers.

  19. Yes, where I lived in Ohio it rained A LOT and it seemed like there were always clouds in the sky. My sister always describes it as "drab."

  20. I want to take the test and see my results! I'm also big on getting gifts and giving gifts to others, so I wonder which one I'd "officially" get.

  24. Getting paid is always a relief! I can't wait to catch up on some payments and then start putting more $$ towards my student loans.

  27. I love buying myself flowers too. It's as though it's so frivolous and unnecessary, it feels like an even more special treat. Plus it's amazing how much fresh flowers brighten a room up :)

    Just discovered your blog, btw. Love it! You have a new reader, for sure.

  33. I love flowers but I don't have much of a green thumb and I always forget to water them or take care of them! I love reading, traveling, taking a hike alone, going to dinner at one of my fav restaurants with my friends, snuggling up on the couch with a bowl of popcorn and a good movie...which I think I am going to go do now.
